Head Injuries Require Experienced Legal Counsel

The trauma that's associated with a head injury isn't just limited to the duration of the recovery process. In some instances the injury may be so severe that the affected individual may experience a wide variety of debilitating effects for a lifetime. Worse yet, the brain is so complicated that the symptoms associated with a head injury, may not present itself until months or years after the incident has occurred. If you experienced a head injury recently, due to someone's negligence, it's important that you become aware of your rights and the circumstances surrounding the personal injury law.

Types Of Traumatic Brain Injury
Even though every brain injury is different, the medical community categorizes them into 4 basic types: closed head injuries, open head injuries, concussions and scalp wounds

Closed Head Injury
In a situation where an individual experiences a closed head injury, the skull is not penetrated, but regardless, it can cause a variety of conditions such as Diffuse Axonal Injury. The Axonal is responsible for our physical and cognitive abilities, damage to the Axonal can cause a disruption of the nerves within it and can essentially negatively affect the individual's physical and cognitive abilities such as their ability to walk, touch and smell.

Open Head Injury
An injury to the head is categorized as an open head injury when the skull has been penetrated. This type of injury can cause internal bleeding within the brain's tissues, skull fractures and it can cause the skull's bones to push forward onto your' brain's tissue.

Concussion
A concussion occurs whenever the brain has been essentially shaken, due to an external force.

Scalp Wounds
The scalp is the skin that protects your skull. Injuries that occur on the scalp can cause tissue damage and internal bleeding as well.

The Lasting Effects Of A Head Injury
Regardless of the severity of a head injury, in some cases it can cause what's known as TBI or Traumatic Brain Injury. Just like how a burn can leave lasting scars on an individual's body, or how spinal corn injuries can affect the person for the rest of their life, Traumatic Brain Injury is just as catastrophic in the sense that an individual who experiences it can have physical, social, psychological and spiritual problems for a lifetime. To put things into retrospect, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 3.2 million Americans are living with a permanent disability, due to a head injury that they received in the past. Even worse, they also estimate that as many as 1.7 million people experience Traumatic Brain Injury every year, 55,000 of whom, die as an end result.

What To Do If You Have Received A Head Injury Due To Someone's Negligence.
Personal injury law states that an individual can seek financial compensation, if they believe that their injury has occurred as a result of someone's negligence. Therefore, if you find yourself if this predicament, it's highly recommended that you seek a personal injury lawyer as soon as possible. As such, ensure that you secure any medical bills that you may have acquired as a result of the injury and documented medical proof that demonstrates the severity of the injury and the side effects that the injury has caused or may cause in the foreseeable future. In most cases, a personal injury lawyer will operate on a contingency fee, meaning that, you can work out an agreement with your lawyer in reference to his compensation, which will only occur if the lawyer is able to secure a settlement for your situation.
